About the Event

Sewing Summer Camp: Camp Shirts!

This summer camp workshop series is for anyone who wants to learn how to sew or practice! There will be 4 sessions ($25 ea) needed to finish the shirt. Each session will be offered on a weekend and weekday to accomodate different schedules, and run for 4 weeks.

*This ticket is for Session 1 only*

Session 1: Use a class-provided Camp Shirt sewing pattern to cut out your choice of materials. Feel free to bring your own material (will need 1-2 yards depending on fabric width), or choose from some upcycled options at the studio. Seattle Recreative is a great place to get secondhand fabric. Thrift stores also have a great selection of linens and fabrics that'd be great for a button-up camp shirt. A medium-weight woven fabric (imagine a bedsheet or tablecloth fabric) is what to look for. This fabric won't have any stretch or be too heavy for the machines.

Session 2: Begin to sew the shirt. We'll use home sewing machines for the basic seams, and look at different ways to finish the seams for a clean finish. We'll also apply interfacing (provided) to stabilize some of the front and collar. Feel free to bring your own home sewing machine or use a studio-provided one.

Session 3: Continue sewing! This session will most likely be finishing the hems on the sleeves and hem, and adding pockets.

Session 4: Finishing touches! Use some studio provided vintage buttons to finish up your shirt. Or feel free to bring your own (4-5 needed).
