About the Event
Learn to Sew: Overalls Dresses!
This 3-part class is for anyone who wants to learn how to sew or practice (no experience needed!)! There will be 3 sessions needed to finish the dresses. Setting this class series as a one-time-purchase, but please let me know if you'd prefer to pay $30 + tax ($33.08) before each class. Classes are on Tuesdays from 5:30-8:30pm: 8/22, 8/29 & 9/5. There'll be 1 make up session added if you're unable to attend one of the dates.
Things you'll learn/practice:
-Understanding a sewing pattern (we'll be using McCalls 7831)
-Cutting out fabric
-Applying interfacing
-Using a sewing machine to do basic seams
-Using a serger to finish seams
-Making hand pockets and/or patch pockets (if time allows)
-Hems
-Adjusting a garment to fit you perfectly
-Applying overalls hardware and stud buttons
Things you'll need/are provided:
I'll have some upcycled fabrics for you to chose from at the studio in neutrals and prints! If you'd prefer to chose your own fabric, you'll need 2 yards (this includes a little extra length just to be safe)
Suggested fabrics: Corduroy, Denim, Cotton Blends, Velveteen
This could be a fun way to use a curtain or large tablecloth too! Seattle Recreative and thrift stores are great places to find textiles for reuse.
8/22 Session 1: Use a class-provided sewing pattern to cut out your choice of materials. Feel free to bring your own material, or choose from some upcycled options at the studio. Seattle Recreative is a great place to get secondhand fabric. Thrift stores also have a great selection of linens and fabrics that'd be great for this project (curtains, tablecloths, fabric yardage). We'll also iron on some interfacing to stabilize seams. Begin to sew pieces together
8/29 Session 2: Sew up and finish side seams. Begin to sew shoulder straps
9/5 Session 3: Hem & attach hardware
Instructor:
Emelia! (she/her):)

The space is down the stairs and the last door on your left. The basement is shared with dance studios, and has unisex bathrooms on the third floor. Parking is a big challenge, but luckily we're 1 block from the 2, 12, and 11 bus stops, as well as .5 miles from the lightrail station.
Covid: Masks are currently recommended. Thanks for understanding!
Ticket Policy: Let me know if you're unable to make the class as soon as possible! Full refunds given up until 2 weeks before class time, class credit given two weeks to three days before class time.
