The Darning 2.0 class is designed for those who have experience with darning or knitting and want to take their mending skills to the next level. We will start by reviewing swiss darning (aka duplicate stitch) to use as reinforcement and how to repair holes. Additionally we’ll explore scotch and honeycomb darning, which are both variations on a blanket stitch, and can also be used to repair holes or reinforce knitwear. Swiss darning is typically used as the least visible technique to repair knits, if that’s your goal. All three techniques are best applied to knitwear fabrics and, unlike traditional darning, will maintain the natural stretch of the knit. You can bring along your own knitwear to repair if you’d like or a knitwear sample will be provided.

Instructor: Rachel Weigelt is the owner and operator of Frayed Threads Mending in northeast Seattle, where she offers textile mending and tailoring services. She will walk you through the steps to repair your knitwear with these three darning techniques.
