Cozy Sewing Camp: Camp Shirts!
This Fall camp workshop is for anyone who wants to learn how to sew or practice (no experience needed!)! There will be 5 sessions ($25 ea) needed to finish the shirt. Setting this class series as a one-time-purchase, but please let me know if you'd prefer to pay $25 before each class.
Session 1: Use a class-provided Camp Shirt sewing pattern to cut out your choice of materials. Feel free to bring your own material (will need 1.5-2.5 yards depending on fabric width, size, and short vs long sleeve. Message me for specific questions!), or choose from some upcycled options at the studio. Seattle Recreative is a great place to get secondhand fabric. Thrift stores also have a great selection of linens and fabrics that'd be great for a button-up camp shirt. A medium-weight woven fabric (imagine a bedsheet or tablecloth fabric) is what to look for. This fabric won't have any stretch or be too heavy for the machines.
Session 2: Begin to sew the shirt. We'll use home sewing machines for the basic seams, and look at different ways to finish the seams for a clean finish. We'll also apply interfacing (provided) to stabilize some of the front and collar. Feel free to bring your own home sewing machine or use a studio-provided one.
Session 3: Continue sewing!
Session 4: This session will most likely be finishing the hems on the sleeves and hem, and adding pockets.
Session 5: Finishing touches! Use some studio provided vintage buttons to finish up your shirt. Or feel free to bring your own (4-5 needed for short sleeve, or 6-7 for longsleeve).
Summit Selvage is located on the corner of 12th Ave and Pike St in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The entrance door will be propped open on the 12th Ave side. The space is down the stairs and the last door on your left. The basement is shared with dance studios, and has unisex bathrooms on the third floor. Parking is a big challenge, but luckily we're 1 block from the 2, 12, and 11 bus stops, as well as .5 miles from the lightrail station.
Covid: Masks and vax are currently recommended. Subject to change before class.
