About the Event

Back-to-School Sewing Camp: Pants and shorts!

This Fall camp workshop series is for anyone who wants to learn how to sew or practice! There will be 4 sessions ($25 ea) needed to finish the pants or shorts. Each session will be offered on a weekend and weekday to accomodate different schedules, and run for 4 weeks.

Session 1: Edit a class-provided pants or shorts sewing pattern to cut out your choice of materials. You'll be able to design your pants/shorts size, width, length, and pocket styles. Feel free to bring your own material (will need 2-3 yards depending on fabric width and short vs long pants), or choose from some upcycled options at the studio. Seattle Recreative is a great place to get secondhand fabric. Thrift stores also have a great selection of linens and fabrics that'd be great for pants and shorts. A medium-weight woven fabric (imagine a tablecloth or curtains fabric) is what to look for. This fabric won't have any stretch, be too heavy for the machines, or look too much like pajamas (unless that's what you want to make!).

Session 2: Begin to sew the pants or shorts. We'll use home sewing machines for the basic seams, and look at different ways to finish the seams for a clean finish.

Session 3: Continue sewing! Today we'll most likely be finishing the pockets and adding an internal elastic waistband.

*This ticket is for Session 4 only*

Session 4: This session will most likely be finishing the hems and any other final details!

Summit Selvage is located on the corner of 12th Ave and Pike St in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The entrance door will be propped open on the 12th Ave side. The space is down the stairs and the last door on your left. The basement is shared with dance studios, and has unisex bathrooms on the third floor. Parking is a big challenge, but luckily we're 1 block from the 2, 12, and 11 bus stops, as well as .5 miles from the lightrail station.

Covid: Masks and vax are currently recommended. Subject to change before class.
